Once 10-day contracts became eligible to be used, the first team to sign a player to one was the Toronto Raptors. The player they had signed was center Eugene Omoruyi. Now that his deal has expired, Toronto has now brought in another player for 10 days. That player is center Orlando Robinson who is now a member of the Raptors. The 24-year-old will now have the opportunity to perform well enough to make sure that the Raptors decide to hold on to him.
Raptors Agree To 10-Day Contract With 7-Footer
Orlando Robinson Joining Raptors On 10-Day Deal
On Friday, Omoruyi saw his 10-day contract expire. The Raptors decided not to extend him for another 10 days, thus opening up a spot on their roster. Omoruyi did not get to appear in a game during his time for Toronto. On Saturday, that roster spot was filled by their 10-day contract with Robinson.
When the 2024-25 season began, Robinson was a member of the Sacramento Kings. The 7-footer saw action in nine games for Sacramento. Playing just a total of 57 minutes, Robinson would average 2.1 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.0 assists. The Kings allowed him to become a free agent by waiving him on January 7.
Previous to that, Robinson played the prior two seasons with the Miami Heat. In the two years, he appeared in 67 games while making eight starts. With Miami, he posted averages of 3.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.9 assists while shooting 51.6% from the field. The three highest-scoring games of Robinson’s career all came with the Heat in the same month. In December of 2023, he scored 16 on December 2 and had 15-point outings on December 6 as well as December 26.
Undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, Robinson played three seasons with the Fresno State Bulldogs. In his junior year of 2021-22, he was named to the First Team All-Mountain West.
Robinson certainly hopes that he will get to see more than the zero minutes that Omoruyi saw on his 10-day deal. He will have four chances to play before it expires with Toronto’s next game coming Tuesday at home against the Orlando Magic. They then play Thursday and Saturday, with both games on the road against the Atlanta Hawks, before playing Monday, January 27 at home against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Raptors will have the opportunity to sign Robinson to another 10-day deal once this one is over before deciding if they want to keep him the rest of the season.
Toronto Has Had Little Success This Season
A Las Vegas native, Robinson is joining a Raptors team that is near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. They own a miserable 10-32 record on the year and are just 1-19 on the road. Their record is the second-worst in the entire NBA, only better than the Washington Wizards.
Players such as Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, and Chris Boucher have seen their names involved in trade rumors. By trading some of their veteran players, Toronto could more easily transition into more of a youth movement. That could include holding on to Robinson, who has shown glimpses of being a useful NBA player, particularly in his time with the Heat.
