A Toronto Raptor will be in San Francisco to represent for All-Star Weekend after all.
…and we thought the Toronto Raptors wouldn’t have any All Star Game representation!
The NBA announced the participants of the Rising Stars game on Tuesday, and sophomore Gradey Dick made the list.
Every year, the league selects the most promising rookies, sophomores, and G-League players for this event. They are split into smaller teams of seven and play a mini-tournament during All-Star Weekend. This weekend, the event will take place on Friday February 14 at Chase Arena in San Francisco.
This year there is a twist — the best player in the Rising Stars games will earn a spot in the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday February 16.
Scottie Barnes was the last Toronto Raptor to participate in this event. Last year in his third year, Barnes was named to the Eastern Conference All-Star team as an injury reserve, his first official All-Star Game call up.
In his second NBA season, Dick is averaging 15.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 29.8 minutes in 40 games this season. He is shooting .34.6% from three-point range and has scored 20+ points in 10 games this season, after only doing so four times in his rookie season. Dick is currently ranked 2nd in points scored (628) and 5th in three-point field goals (90) among all rookies and sophomores in the NBA. Earlier this season, he became the fourth-youngest Raptor to reach 1,000 career points (21 years, 42 days).
