After a lengthy stretch of road games, the Leafs are back home and preparing for a big one against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night at Scotiabank Arena.
The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta filled in for Jay Rosehill as co-host on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. To kick off the show, Pagnotta went in depth surrounding all the Marner/Rantanen Toronto/Carolina fallout from trade deadline. He revealed some fascinating info. Essentially, he said there were four preferred destinations for Rantanen, and yes, Toronto was one of them. Of course, all this is a moot point now with the former Avalanche now locked up long-term in Dallas. At any rate, it’s still fun to hear what didn’t happen.
Brought to you by Sobeys, we previewed the meeting with the Panthers a bit. Even though they didn’t play, Tuesday night was a good one for the Leafs as both Florida teams lost in regulation. The Leafs are two points back of the Cats with one game in hand and they’re three points up on the Bolts. Additionally, we talked about the new guys: Brandon Carlo and Scott Laughton. Both are off to slow starts. It’s been TWO games. People need to relax.
After that, thanks to Charm Diamond Centres, The Sheet’s Jeff Marek dropped by to dish on his interview with Carolina Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky, among other hot button topics. We did a deep dive on Rantanen, Marner, how the Leafs stack up against the rest of the division, Sam Bennett, and if Marek thinks this team is good enough to finally do something substantial in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
