Tired of hearing your crazy uncle tell the same holiday story/joke over and over again?
Well, I’m happy to report that you now have an escape. That’s because earlier today, we dropped a special Christmas roundtable.
For the first time ever, Jay Rosehill, Carter Hutton, Zack Phillips, and I got together as a four pack to talk some Maple Leafs. As one would expect, it was filled with laughter, hot takes, and yes, some off-side commentary, too. You never know what you’re going to get with us.
At any rate, the conversation kicked off with some holiday talk. One by one, we broke down any holiday traditions that we may have. For me personally, the holiday season goes hand in hand with the World Juniors. I look forward to the tournament every year.
After that, we covered all things Toronto Maple Leafs. First and foremost, we gave our general thoughts on the team at the Christmas break. Through 35 outings, they’re 21-12-2, which in the grand scheme of things, is very respectable. It goes without saying but think they have a really good shot to win the Atlantic this season. At the very least, they’re within striking distance.
Meantime, there’s been lots to like, and also a few things that need improvement —namely that power play. With that in mind, we offered up some of our biggest surprises and disappointments as we approach the midway point of the regular season.
Then, we got to Auston Matthews. Indisputably, it’s the biggest topic right now: How should the two parties handle this injury situation moving forward? Unsurprisingly, all four of us were unanimously in favour of shutting him down indefinitely, getting him right, and having a long-term focus on the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It’s the right thing to do.
Lastly, we talked Leafs Christmas Wishlist. Once again, we all brought something different to the table. You love to see that!
