We get the Yankees and Dodgers in the World Series. But it doesn’t start until Friday, which I can’t understand.
We haven’t had the Dodgers and Yankees in the World Series since 1981, but it was a regular occurrence there for a while. From 1941 to 1981, they met 11 times. The Yankees won 8 of the 11 series.
I am happy for Marcus Stroman (I hope he makes the roster) and Tim Mayza on the Yankees’ side and Teoscar Hernandez and Kevin Kiermaier on the Dodgers’ side. Beyond that, I’d have liked any of the other teams that were in the playoffs to make it.
The use (or lack of use) of starting pitchers has been an interesting part of the playoffs. I wonder if the bullpens can handle throwing as many innings in this series. The Dodgers seemed to use the back of the pen guys any time they got behind by more than a run and managed to keep the leverage guys a little fresher.
I’ll admit, I’m more of a fan of having the starters go deeper into games. They have bought into the idea of not having starters go a third time through the lineups (or, second time through much of the time). But I’m always happy to see a new strategy used, if only because it drives the commentators crazy.
I wonder if we can make prop bets on how often we get the one-knee-catching rant?
Let’s have a prediction thread: Tell us who will win, the number of games, and the total runs scored between the two teams for a tiebreaker. And add in any other prediction you’d like to make.
I’ll take the Dodgers in six, with 72 runs scored.
