Mets 2 Blue Jays 1
I don’t know.
We just aren’t hitting. Just 4 hits on the day, with 5 walks. One extra base hit. Alejandro Kirk had two of the hits. Tyler Heineman and Myles Straw had the other two. Clement and Santander had two walks.
But we were 0 for 8 with RISP.
Our run came in fifth. Heineman started it with a double. Two outs later (Straw and Bichette), Vlad and Santander both walked, and Andrés Giménez had an RBI hit by pitch. But Kirk popped out to end the inning.
That was an interesting inning because during Vlad’s at bat, Mets’ starter David Peterson looked hurt, but they didn’t take him out. Then he walks Santander, and they still don’t take him out. The hit batter convinced them to replace him. I don’t know if they wanted him to get the W or what, but it was bad baseball.
We did nothing against the Mets’ pen.
On the pitching side. Bowden Francis was very good, again. 5.1 innings, 2 earned on 6 hits, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. He gave up the 2 runs in the 3rd. It started walk, strikeout, walk. Then a Pete Alonso singles scored one and a Brandon Nimmo sac fly scored the other. If you allow just two runs you shouldn’t get an L.
Chad Green looked the best we’ve seen him this year. 1.2 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 strikeout.
And Brendon Little pitched a scoreless inning with 2 k.
Jays of the Day: Green (.115 WPA) and Roden (.090, for his pinch hit hit batter).
Other Award: Vlad (-.183, much of it for the out to end the game, 0 for 4, walk), Davis Schneider (-.104 for his 0 for 2), Heineman (-.089, 1 for 4, k) and Lukes (-.088, 0 for 1 in that ninth).
The Jays are 5-5, which, on its own is ok, but this series has been rough on us fans.
Tomorrow, they play the Red Sox. The start time is 6:45, Easton Lucas (most likely) vs. Richard Fitts.
Hopefully, the batters relax and start having better at-bats.
