Last night’s umpire scorecard wasn’t as bad as I expected, but it wasn’t good. It’s a pretty decent edge to the Mets, but when you are that bad, there is a chance that it will randomly edge one way or the other. He had both benches mad at him, and sometimes on consecutive pitches.

It sounds like today’s game is going to happen (1:40 Eastern start time), or at least start and George Springer’s back spasms must have improved from last night:
Pre-game #BlueJays notes from Citi Field:
• George Springer did some pre-game work and it looked like he was in good spirits
• It’s cool and windy, but better than yesterday
• Made eye contact with Mrs. Met in the hallway and got nervous— Keegan Matheson (@KeeganMatheson) April 6, 2025
There were a lot of complaints about John Schneider’s use of the bullpen in last night’s game, but I don’t have much trouble with it. Sometimes, pitchers fail.
With two out in the seventh, Chris Bassitt gave up a single. In the thread, I asked if you would pull him here. Most said yes. Bassitt was at 92 pitches. It was a cold evening, which is tough on pitchers, and I felt that taking him out to enjoy his great start was the right move.
And Yimi Garcia had been terrific.
He wasn’t last night, but he got out of the inning. If Garcia had gotten out of the inning quickly, he could have pitched the eighth, but anyone who watched him in the seventh wouldn’t have sent him out for the eighth.
Brandon Little was John’s choice, and Little is our number 1 lefty reliever (which is something we could condemn the front office over), so it didn’t seem like a horrible choice. It didn’t go well, and a Jesse Winker triple tied the game, and that was it for Little.
Sandlin relieved and got us out of the inning. And he started the ninth. It didn’t go well.
I saw many tweets saying that Jeff Hoffman should have pitched the ninth. I disagree because if the Jays were to win, someone would have to pitch the tenth. We had the back end of the Mets’ lineup in the ninth, and we’d have the top of the order in the tenth (if all went well). If I’m the manager, I’d rather have the better pitcher face the top of the order.
It didn’t go well, but I didn’t feel it was John’s fault. Now, if someone wanted to blame the umpires, I’m all in.
Today’s lineup. No Springer. Davis Schneider in against the lefty, hopefully he can end the 0 for. Heineman catching. Kirk DH. All the right-handers they can get into the lineup.
