Happy Sunday. Tomorrow, we have a ton of baseball:
- The continuation of the June 26th game, which was rained out. It restarts in the top of the second, with no score. The fun part is Danny Jansen will play for both teams in the game. Here is how the the boxscore looks at the restart:
We must make many substitutions: Bichette, Turner, Jansen, Kiner-Falefa, and Kiermaier are no longer with the team. Rodriguez lines up nicely to continue his start, but it with them pushing everyone a day back, it is likely to be the 27th man continuing the game.
- The second game starts at 7:00 Eastern. Jose Berrios gets the start. Tom_M and I are going to watch that one at the bar. Anyone in or around Calgary is welcome to join us. We are going to Red Rock Bar and Grill, which is a short distance from my house.
Today (well, yesterday really) in things baseball players say that drives Tom crazy:
Taylor Ward on what made Francis so tough:
“I really don’t know. You know, I thought that everything was hittable. Maybe to other guys, he made better pitches. A lot of guys were talking about his split and that being on. But personally, I didn’t think it was anything special.”

Yes, he was hittable. You guys struck out 12 times and had one hit. But you could have hit him anytime you wanted. You just decided to look bad all game long. Who wouldn’t? It is smart baseball to look foolish at the plate.
If he’s so hittable why are teams hitting .090 against him in his last four starts?
Yesterday’s umpire scorecard. I was just curious to see if there was a larger strike zone helping Bowden out. And yeah, there were some balls called strikes, but most of them were for the Angels. That’s not unusual; umpires generally give an edge to the trailing team. It is human nature.
Today’s lineups. Loperfido moves up to the two spot. I hope that doesn’t mess with him. He is making our off-season look easier. If he keeps hitting, he’s locked up an outfield spot and given us a much-needed power bat.
