There is a (bad) romantic comedy movie, ‘27 Dresses,’ in which Katherine Heigl shows her romantic interest that she has 27 ugly bridesmaid dresses and has never been the bride. Somewhere in an office at Roger Centre, there is a closet with the same number of dresses, for the Blue Jays front office.
This last one bugged me because when they graded for Myles Straw, I figured they must be sure they are getting Roki Sasaki. After all, who in their right mind would trade for Straw and most of the $14.75 million left on his contract if they weren’t sure.
If the Padres did win Sasaki’s hand, they had a trade ready to pick up international money. The Dodgers made a deal after signing him to increase their pool money.
The Jays? Let’s jump right in and pick up a guy whose one value to the team is keeping better players off the roster. I can’t see why a team wouldn’t rather Jonatan Clase or Nathan Lukes fill in for Daulton Varsho while he’s recovering from surgery. Clase has potential; getting him some major league at-bats would be a good play, or Lukes would be better than the Straw right now.
But no, we are paying Straw. He’ll have a roster spot.
Now, the focus turns to Anthony Santander and/or Pete Alonso to save the off-season from being a waste. My only question is: How much will the Dodgers pay them next year?
It’s no surprise that the Dodgers just signed Tanner Scott. If they sign all the players, they will surely win the World Series next year by default. One more dress for the closet:
Jays were among teams in on Scott. Tough to compete with Dodgers these days, on field or off

The Jays needed a pink chiffon dress to complete the collection.
Anyway, I thought I’d ask: What would be worse, having a team that is in on all the top free agents but doesn’t get them or having a team that doesn’t try to get any of the top free agents? Does it feel better to think they are trying, or is the pain of wearing the puffy green dress worse?
Question two:
