This will be fun.
In the past, I’ve grouped Atkins and Shapiro (and I’m not so sure that that isn’t the best way to do it, I don’t know if there is a strict division of duties), but this time let’s just ask about the GM.
A few thoughts:
- The bullpen has been awful after it was so good last year. I don’t know if that should be on Atkins because I thought they were in good shape coming into the season too. I don’t think any of us thought they would go from one of the best bullpens to the worst bullpen in the game, in a season. But Romano hurt, Mayza awful, Swanson almost as awful. Really the only one that was good was Yimi Garcia (and he hasn’t been good for the Mariners and is hurt now). Green has gone from okay to terrible, and Cabrera has been mostly good, with some terrible moments. I don’t think Ross should have seen this coming because I didn’t, but then I’m not paid to run things.
- He should have seen some of the offensive troubles coming. We weren’t good offensively last year, but I wouldn’t have guessed we’d be this bad.
- On the plus side, the young guys have been surprisingly good. Our farm system isn’t rated as one of the better ones in the league, but we’ve had some surprisingly good players.
- The deadline trades worked out very well.
Anyway….let’s have the polls:
