We have four games again today. There were some good games yesterday:
Tigers 3 Astros 1
Skubal was terrific. Valdez wasn’t. The Astros scored their run in the ninth, and loaded the bases. They get three straight hits to start off the inning, scoring a run, with the tying run on first. And then they bunt? You have the pitcher in trouble, Yainer Diaz isn’t a great hitter, but he did have a .299 average this year. Oh well, they never learn.
Royals 1 Orioles 0
Corbin Burnes pitched eight innings, allowing just five hits and a run, and was the losing pitcher. Cole Ragans pitched six innings, allowing four hits with eight strikeouts and getting the win.
Mets 8 Brewers 4
The Mets score eight without a home run. And without any player driving in more than two or getting more than two hits. Luis Severino wasn’t great either, giving up eight hits and four runs with just three strikeouts, but he didn’t have to be. And we thought the Mets would be tired.
Braves 0 Padres 4
With Chris Sale hurt, the Braves went with AJ Smith-Shawver, who pitched just 4.1 innings in the majors this year. It didn’t go well. Three earned in 1.1 innings, including a Fernando Tatis home run. Michael King went seven innings, allowing five hits with twelve strikeouts.
Today we have:
- Tigers @ Astros at 2:30 Eastern
- Royals @ Orioles at 4:30 Eastern
- Mets @ Brewers at 7:30 Eastern
- Braves @ Padres at 8:30 Eastern
