All the talk today, is about Ernie Clement hitting a home run on a pitch that was head level, something we haven’t seen since the days of Corey Paterson, who hit a home run on a pitch, apparently, an inch lower than that.
The problem with Paterson’s is that he started swinging at higher and higher pitches (hard to blame him; he hit that one, and people cheered) and, unsurprisingly, went into a slump. I expect that Clement will not do the same. He seems a more disciplined hitter.

Of course, there is a lot of talk about Joey Votto. He is an introvert who has worked hard to express his rather unique personality. He took improv classes to help him overcome his introverted nature.
He seems interesting and thoughtful and has a nice sense of humour. And it seems like he had good reason to decide to retire. He didn’t want to be called up to Toronto unless his play called for it. And it didn’t.
He should be a Hall of Famer, but he does seem like a Hall of Fame person. He seems like someone you would want to meet. I think I’d never want to meet many baseball players in real life.
It was great to see Kevin Pillar again, and he seems happy to be in Toronto:
Hello #Toronto. Love being back! Going to be giving away 4 tickets for Saturday’s game. First person to answer this question correctly will receive 4 tickets for Saturdays game.
What former teammates jersey will I be wearing for batting practice tonight??

This is a fun story.
On this day 35 years ago, at the time Expos mascot, Youppi! was tossed out of a game against the LA Dodgers by umpire Bob Davidson after upsetting Tommy Lasorda for making too much noise on the visitors’ dugout. pic.twitter.com/MKA483f22E

Vlad gets a rare off day, which is sure to cause complaints, but he deserves an off day.
