Just like that, the 2024 minor league season has come to an end.
The final game in the Blue Jays system was played on Sunday by the Buffalo Bisons, who fell 8-4 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, bringing their second-half record to 31-43 and their overall record to 68-80. Moreover, the Bisons finished the season on a four-game losing streak.
Buffalo took the lead in the bottom of the first, as the returning Payton Henry hit his fifth double of the season to score Josh Kasevich. However, the RailRiders tied it in the top of the fourth thanks to Oswald Peraza’s 13th home run of the season and his third in two days.

In the top of the fifth, Scranton took control of the game. They took the league thanks to Greg Allen’s ninth double of the season, before Ben Rice hit his 12th home run of the season, a grand slam. To make matters worse for the Bisons, Taylor Trammell hit an RBI single to make it 7-1.
The Bisons had some fight in the bottom of the sixth. Henry once again knocked in a run thanks to an RBI single, before Damiano Palmegiani hit his organization-leading 21st home run of the season. But the comeback fell short, as Caleb Durbin hit his 23rd double of the season to score the eighth RailRiders’ run of the game.

Diving into the stats…
Despite the loss, the Bisons’ batters had more hits (11) than the RailRiders (10). Payton Henry was responsible for three of them, as he hit two doubles and a single. Phil Clarke had two singles, while Orelvis Martinez hit his 19th double of the season, and Damiano Palmegiai hit his 19th home run in Triple-A and his 21st of the season.
Speaking about Palmegiani and Martinez, for the first time since the 2019 season, Martinez didn’t lead the organization in home runs thanks to a lengthy suspension for PEDs. Instead, Palmegiani’s 21 home runs led the organization, two more than Will Robertson and four more than Orelvis Martinez and Arjun Nimmala. It’s worth mentioning that since Palmegiani’s first full season in 2022, he only has seven fewer home runs than Martinez.
Other Bisons’ batters with a hit were Rafael Lantigua, Will Robertson, Riley Tirotta, and Braden Barry, as they all hit singles. The Bisons’ only walk came courtesy of Lantigua, who also threw out a base runner.

Pitching didn’t have the best day. Jake Bloss pitched four and a third innings, striking out five but allowing five hits, a walk, and three earned runs to bring his ERA to 6.91 since joining the Jays. Emmanuel Ramírez had a tough outing, giving up four runs (three earned) in two thirds of an inning.

Hagen Danner pitched a clean inning with a strikeout, as did Brett de Gues. Moreover, Nick Robertson pitched a clean inning without striking out a batter. Braydon Fisher gave up an earned run and a walk in his inning of work.
And here comes the sad part: It’s another six months before a team in the Blue Jays’ system plays a minor league game, as the Triple-A season starts on March 28. Still, there’ll be another six minor league reports this season looking at each of the six affiliate teams.
