This saddens me: Jordan Romano signed a one-year $8.5 million contract with a $500,000 bonus if he throws 60 innings. He was projected to get $7.75 million in arbitration, so the Jays’ bet that he wouldn’t get that in free agency was a loser.
Jordan ends his time with the Jays in third place in Jays career saves with 105 and 22nd in appearances among Jays pitchers. He has an 89% success rate in save opportunities.
Romano missed most of 2024 with a right elbow issue, but Ross Atkins said “We have no medical concerns” about him. I don’t know. I can’t see why they would have non-tendered him if they had no concerns.
The Phillies lost relievers Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estevez to free agency.
We’ll see. I’d rather have him in our bullpen than not. They better find someone to get saves this year.
