This surprised me:
The Jays outrighted Genesis Cabrera (and Luis Frias). Both have taken free agency.
Cabrera was one of the few relievers the Jays used who was, most of the time, effective. He pitched in 69 games and had a 3.59 ERA. In 62.2 innings, he allowed 63 hits, 29 walks, and 50 strikeouts. RHB had a .811 OPS against him. LHB .760. He had a rough time in September, with a 5.91 ERA, but then he was being used a lot.
Frias was a waiver pick from the Diamondbacks in early August. He pitched 3.1 innings for us, with 8 hits, 8 earned, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts, for a 21.60 ERA.
The Jays DFAed Emmanuel Ramirez, an RHP they picked up from the Marlins off waivers in September. He pitched 4.1 innings for the Bisons with an 8.31 ERA and 20.2 innings for the Marlins with a 6.97 ERA.
The Jays picked up right-handed reliever Michael Peterson from the Marlins off waivers. He pitched 19.2 innings for the Marlins and Dodgers with a 5.95 ERA. But, in the minors, he had a 1.64 ERA in 33 innings, with 17 hits, 8 walks and 44 strikeouts (a very impressive number).
Welcome Michael. Sorry to see you go, Genesis.
And the Jays lost Luis De Los Santos off waivers to the Mets. Santos had 31 PA for the Jays, in 2024, with a .172/.226/241 line. He hit .260/.375/.441 in 43 games in Buffalo.
The Jays have 37 players on their 40-man roster, but they have to add the players who finished the season on the IL to the 40-man.
Update:
Alek Manoah, Jordan Romano, Daulton Varsho and Will Wagner have all been reinstated from the 60-day IL.
