Shi Davidi tells us that the Jays have non-tendered Jordan Romano. He was to get around $7.75 million, but that doesn’t mean he won’t end up back with the Jays.
The Jays know more about his shoulder issue than we do, so it might be a clue that they don’t think he’ll be 100% next season.
It doesn’t mean they can’t work out a deal with him. I’d expect they would try to make a deal with a team option for a second year or something similar to what Chad Green got.
Jordan has 105 saves in his six seasons (with just 12 blown saves, for an 89% success rate, better than Henke’s 85% success rate) with the Jays, which has him sitting third on the Jays all-time list. Seventeen more would put him second behind Tom Henke.
Also, the Jays have non-tendered Dillon Tate, who would gotten around $1.7. The Jays might try to sign him to a minor-league contract.
I’m a fan of Romano’s, so I hope he’s back with the team next year. If not, I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up.
