Marlins 3 Blue Jays 1
The good news is that we won’t have another Blue Jays loss for six months.
And we kept within a field goal.
The bad news, Vlad didn’t get his 200th hit. He did get two walks. I was surprised that he took a ball just off the plate for ball four in his last at-bat. But it doesn’t take anything away from his season, he’s been terrific. One more hit wouldn’t make it any better.
It showed a lot about Vlad as a hitter that he took close pitches to get a walk, twice, instead of chasing to keep the at bat going.
Like always, we didn’t hit. Just four hits on the day. Jonatan Clase, Luis De Los Santos (our lone extra-base hit, a double) and two from Steward Berroa.
Ryan Burr gave up a couple of runs in the first inning, but then he didn’t get much help from his defense. Davis Schneider had a ground ball go right past him (it should have been an error, but he messed up so bad he didn’t get a glove on it). And Ernie Clement dove for a ball and had it go off his glove; that one wasn’t so bad; he wouldn’t have had a play anyway.
After that:
- Ryan Yarbrough went 3.2 innings, allowed four hits, with three strikeouts, and didn’t give up a run.
- Dillon Tate got three outs, giving up a run off two his, one walk and two strikeouts.
- Brett de Geus got four outs without giving up a base runner.
- Brandon Eisert got the last six outs, getting two strikeouts, without allowing a runner.
Ryan Yarbourgh gets the last JoD of the season.
Other Awards to: Burr (-.154, not totally fair), Clemen (-.137, 0 for 3, walk) and Loperfido (-.134, 0 for 4, RBI, 2 k), and Heinman (-.102, 0 for 3, k).
Our next game? March 27th, 2025. We are hosting the Orioles.
Thanks all for putting up with this terrible Blue Jays season. Over the next four months, we’ll talk about what went wrong and follow along with the changes the club makes to ensure next year isn’t as bad (please don’t let it be as bad).
