Jays 0 Rays 1
I had to look, but this is only the second 1-0 loss the Jays have had this season. I could have sworn there were several.
Anyway…..Jose Berrios gave up a solo homer to Jonathan Aranda (a name I had never heard before) and that was enough for the Rays. Berrios went six innings, allowed six hits, one walk, with six strikeouts. Yet another Quality start. .
Ryan Burr and Zach Pop each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
On offense, we had just six singles.
And, as always, we had two outs on the base paths.
Jonatan (I am never going to remember that spelling) Clase stole second but over slide the bag, and then tried to go to third but was caught. And Ernie Clement, on second, decided to go for third on a ground ball hit in front of him (just bad baseball).
Clase had his first single as a Jay.
Beyond that, six different Rays’ pitchers held the Jays off the scoreboard. My over-used line about if you use enough relievers you’ll find the one that doesn’t have it that day didn’t come true.
Beyond that, Leo Jimenez was hit by pitch again, and this one looked like it hurt.
Vlad had a nice play at first, cutting down a runner trying to score from third on a ground ball.
Jays of the Day: Berrios (.140 WPA). Clement had the number too (.146) but that doesn’t count the out on the bases.
Other Award: Springer (-.217 for and 0 for 4, k), Vlad (1 for 4, k), Horwitz (-.166, 0 for 4, 4 k, just a terrible night), and Luis De Los Santos (-.094 0 for 2 k).
Tomorrow we have a 4:00 Eastern start. Yariel Rodriguez (1-6, 4.29) vs. Taj Bradley (6-11, 4.39).
