Angels 2 Blue Jays 8
This ‘great starting pitching and hitting home runs’ thing is something that we could keep doing.
Kevin Gausman pitched seven innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 earned, no walks, and 10 strikeouts. Later, we will learn that he was ‘very hittable.’ He likely could have gone another inning, but coming out at 94 pitches seems like a smart move this late in the season.
On offense, we hit two home runs: Barger (his 5th) and Kirk (his 5th, right after the Angels walked Vlad Guerrero). That’s 14 games in a row that the Jays have homered. That a nice sign for next year.
We didn’t have that one big inning. But three two-run innings and a couple of single-run innings.
We had seven hits and eight walks (two intentional to Vlad).
Vlad and Barger had two hits each. Kirk had three RBI. Vlad and Barger, two each.
Vlad also had a very nice catch at first base of a sinking soft liner (would you call it a soft liner, low hit popup?).
Angel’s pitcher Matt Moore came out of the game with some sort of injury.
Jays of the Day: Gausman (.276 WPA), Barger (.192), Vlad (.158) and Kirk (.097).
Other Award: Clement (-.122 for an 0 for 4 with a k).
Tomorrow we have a double-header in Boston. Game one is a 2:00 Eastern start and is the continuation of a game from June 26th, which was rained out at the start of the season inning.
Game two is at 7:00 Eastern. It is Berrios (12-9, 3.79) vs. Nick Pivetta (5-8, 4.70). The teams will have an extra player (likely a pitcher) for that game.
