What an awful season this is turning into.
On Tuesday evening, the Blue Jays took on the Philadelphia Phillies in the City of Brotherly love, and lost 10-1, bringing their season record to 16-20, yikes!
In the bottom of the first, Nick Castellanso doubled to score the game’s first run, before Kody Clemens hit a home run in the bottom of the second to make it a 3-0 lead early. That’s all the Phillies needed.

It’s not all they’d get though, as Clemens hit a triple to make it 4-0, before Bryce Harper hit a grand slam to give the Phillies an 8-0 lead.

The Jays would put up a run, as Isiah Kiner-Falefa grounded out to score a run to make it 8-1 in the top of the seventh, but it didn’t matter at all because the Phillies would answer with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Things worth mentioning…
José Berríos had his worst start of the season, finishing with a line of 3.2 IP, 7 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 7 K with two home runs given up. His ERA went from 1.44 to 2.85, a big jump, but it was bound to happen eventually.
The bullpen actually had a strong game, aside from Tim Mayza giving up two earned runs, three hits, and a strikeout in two thirds of an inning. Trevor Richards, Génesis Cabrera, Zach Pop, and Erik Swanson all didn’t allow a run, with a single hit and a walk between the four of them.
This “core” offence didn’t do great, there’s no sugar coating it anymore. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 0-3 with a walk, Bo Bichette went 0-4 with two strikeouts, and George Springer had a single.
There’s some good though with the bats, though. Danny Jansen had a strong game with a double and a single, Alejandro Kirk also had a double, while Justin Turner and Isiah Kiner-Falefa both had a single.
Up next: The Blue Jays play the second of two in Philadelphia tomorrow. Chris Bassitt will get the ball, and that game is at 1:05 PM ET. Hopefully the Jays win, but does it really matter at this point? Something has to change.
