There isn’t much news about the Jays today. Teoscar Hernandez is looking for a three-year contract in the low $20 million per range. I’m okay with that; sign the man. Or, I’d take two years at, say, $10 million a year if they are looking for a bargain. As my dad used to say, ‘Cheap at half the price’.
It is Jimmy Rollins’ fourth time on the ballot. He got 14.9% last year, so he’s moved up a bit from his 9.4% the first time and 12.9% the second time, so he just needs another 36 years to get there at that rate.
Rollins played 17 seasons, 15 of them with the Phillies. He hit .264/.324/.418 with 231 home runs and 470 stolen bases for a 47.6 bWAR.
He was NL MVP in 2007 and received MVP votes four other times. He made three All-Star teams, won four Gold Gloves and one Silver Slugger award, and owns a World Series ring.
He led the NL in at-bat times, triples four times, and stole bases once.
Rollins is sixth in MLB history in games played at short.
He’s 14th among MLB shortstops in hits. But you would have to give him a fair bit of credit for his defense to vote him into the Hall.
He was a good player on some good teams. He might get more from the veteran committee (or whatever they call that committee by the time he gets there).
You can see Rollins’ stats here.
