It is CC Sabathia’s first time on the Hall of Fame Ballot.
Carsten Charles Sabathia played 19 years in the MLB. He had 251 wins with 161 losses in 561 games. All but one were starts. He had a 3.74 ERA and 61.8 bWAR.
He played eight seasons with Cleveland, the second half of one with the Brewers and eleven with the Yankees.
CC was second in Rookie of the Year in 2001, won the Cy Young in 2007 and got votes four other times (finishing third, fourth twice and fifth), made five All-Star teams and had MVP votes nine times.
He led the AL in innings one (241) and was over 200 innings eight times. He led in wins twice but only got to 20 wins once (21 in 2010). He didn’t lead the league in many other categories other than shutouts twice.
Sabathia had four seasons with bWARs over 6 (topping at 6.7) but none in the 5s.
CC was a big man, 6’6”, and listed at 300 pounds (but likely much heavier by the end of his career), which had many of us thinking he wouldn’t age well, but we were wrong. He pitched into his late 30s.
I have difficulty thinking any Yankee should be in the Hall of Fame, but CC seemed less objectionable than most.
