I would skip Ian Kinsler, but he had a decent career.
He played 14 MLB seasons, most of them with the Rangers (eight years), but he also played with the Tigers (four years), Angels, Red Sox and Padres (one season each). In 1888 games, he hit .269/.337/.440 with 1999 hits, 257 home runs and 243 stolen bases with 54.1 bWAR.
Ian got MVP votes four times (highest finish was 11th), made four All-Star teams, had two Gold Gloves and was seventh in Rookie of Year in 2006.
He had bWARs above 5.0 five times, topping out at 7.0 in 2011 when he hit .255/.355/.477 with 32 home runs and 30 steals.
Ian was on five teams that made the playoffs, winning one World Series ring. He hit .274/.369/.417 in 48 playoff games.
Ian:
- I played for Israeli in the 2020 Olympics and was their 2023 World Baseball Classic manager.
- Played for USA in the World Baseball Classic.
- Was a 30/30 man twice.
- He was an excellent defensive player and likely should have won more than the two Gold Gloves.
And, one of those things I rarely say about a Ranger player: he seemed like a good guy.
One more hit would have bought him some more votes from the BBWAA. He’s a marginal candidate. You’d have to give him a lot of credit for his defense, but he’s a better candidate than I thought he would be.
