Following a 1-0 loss on Friday and a 3-2 loss on Saturday, the Toronto Blue Jays will look to avoid being swept as they play the third and final game of their weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays have won eight games in the season series between the two teams this year and the Blue Jays have won four.
Toronto will go with a bullpen day on Sunday before starting their final turn through the rotation next week. Right-hander Ryan Burr will start the game for the Blue Jays and former Ray Ryan Yarbrough is expected to pitch multiple innings in relief. Since being acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Kevin Kiermaier, Yarbrough has a 2.28 ERA over 23 2/3 innings.
Going for Tampa Bay will be righty Shane Baz. After missing the entire 2023 season because of Tommy John surgery, the 25-year-old has a 3.21 ERA over 12 starts for the Rays this year. The last time Baz faced the Blue Jays was back in July of 2022. He allowed just one earned run over six innings of work and landed on the Injured List with an elbow strain shortly after.
