Having started the season with the Toronto Blue Jays, the club traded him to the San Francisco Giants for cash on April 20th, four days after designating him for assignment. It came after a brutal tenure with the team since being acquired from the L.A. Dodgers in August 2022.
Across 24 big league appearances for the Jays, White threw 65 and two-third innings, posting a 7.26 ERA, 4.10 FIP with a 8.8 BB% and a 16.4 K%.
White only lasted three weeks out west with the Giants, before the Brewers acquired him for cash on May 10th, . He’s tossed 23 and two-third innings this season, struggling with a 7.23 ERA, and matching 11.8 BB% and K%’s.
Before he arrived in Toronto White showed promise as a big-leaguer. So much so the club picked him and left infielder Alex De Jesus from the Dodgers for prospects Moises Brito and Nick Frasso, neither of whom are making much noise in the L.A. system.
White had been stretched out as a starter in the Dodgers’ back end of the rotation, making 10 of 15 appearances there the season he was dealt to Toronto. In his three years with the Dodgers, he posted a 3.58 ERA and 3.87 FIP and drew comparisons to Ross Stripling. The Jays hoped he would be able to fill that role as a swingman for the club, but his game fell apart once he arrived north of the border.
White’s departure from the organization was also due to him being out of options, which has continued to make life difficult for him in San Francisco and Milwaukee. The Brewers will have to trade him again, place him on outright waivers, or release him within the next week.
