Out of any prospect the Toronto Blue Jays acquired at the trade deadline, there isn’t one with more pop than the prospect we’ll look at in this article.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual Mid-Season top prospect list, where we’ll look at the 35 best prospects in the Blue Jays system. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publication’s scouting reports if available.
Let’s take a look at our 14th-best prospect, Charles McAdoo!
Getting to know Charles McAdoo…
Position: Third base/Outfielder
Bats: Right
Born: March 6, 2002
Acquired: Trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates
Previous ranking: Not ranked
The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Charles McAdoo in the 13th-round of the 2023 draft out of San Jose State. After turning professional, McAdoo had a great start to his career, as he slashed .302/.412/.510 with five home runs in 114 plate appearances with their Single-A team for a 151 wRC+.
McAdoo continued to perform well despite his low draft spot, as he slashed .336/.415/.561 with nine home runs in 258 plate appearances, along with a 10.5 BB% and a 21.7 K% with the Pirates’ High-A team for a 172 wRC+.Earning a promotion to Double-A, McAdoo slashed .269/.347/.490 with five home runs in 118 plate appearances, along with an 11 BB% and a 24.6 K% for a 135 wRC+. Prior to the trade deadline, the Pirates traded him to the Blue Jays in exchange for Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

It hasn’t been the best of starts for McAdoo in the Jays’ organization, as the 22-year-old is slashing .184/.293/.333 with three home runs in 133 plate appearances with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. While the walk rate remains high (10.5 BB%), his strikeout rate has increased to a concerning 30.1%.
Despite the struggles, the team and other publications are still high on McAdoo, as he ranked as MLB Pipeline’s eighth-best Blue Jays prospect in their mid-season update. They note he’s a strong righty who can hammer fastballs thanks to a good approach. Of course, he also has a lot of pop and high exit velocities as well, meaning he’s graded an average hit tool and power tool by the publication.

Defensively, McAdoo has mainly played at third base since the Jays acquired him, committing four errors in 202.1 innings pitched. He’s also played 17.1 innings in right field, as well as 27 innings at first base. He’s played second base in his career as well. MLB Pipeline believes he can stick in the infield, but his pop plays anywhere.
