We’re starting to see players selected in the 2023 draft take a step forward.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual Pre-Season Prospect Countdown, this time looking at the top 40 prospects in the organization. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publication’s scouting reports if available.
Let’s take a look at our 17th-best Toronto Blue Jays prospect, Jace Bohrofen.
Getting to know Jace Bohrofen…
Position: Outfield
Bats: Left
Born: October 19, 2001
Acquired: 6th-round, 2023 draft
Previous ranking: 30th
Bohrofen played three collegiate seasons, one at the University of Oklahoma before transferring to the University of Arkansas. In his final season in 2023. the outfielder slashed .318/.436/.612 with 16 home runs in 267 plate appearances, leading the Blue Jays to select him in the sixth round of the 2023 draft.
The outfielder split his time between the Florida Complex League and Single-A, where he slashed .299/.443/.636 with seven home runs in 87 plate appearances, with a 19.6 BB% and a 24.7 K% for a 181 wRC+.
Bohrofen played the entirety of the 2024 season with the High-A Vancouver Canadians, where he slashed .254/.364/.433 with 14 home runs in 485 plate appearances, with a 12.4 BB% and a 23.7 K%. This gave him a 126 wRC+, the fourth highest wRC+ in the Blue Jays minor league system with 350+ plate appearances.
In MLB Pipeline’s 2024 mid-season update, Bohrofen ranked as their 25th-best Blue Jays prospect. The 23-year-old’s best tool is his power thanks to upper-body strength, but it’s paired nicely thanks to his eye at the plate. Bohrofen’s hit tool isn’t as good, as he can swing through breaking pitches while he’ll end up playing a corner outfield for his career.
